Rumia. Miejsce spoczynku porucznik Kazimiery Kamińskiej, żołnierki Wojska Polskiego i uczestniczki bitwy o Monte Cassino, zyskało nowy wygląd. Dzięki staraniom samorządowców oraz wsparciu Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej odnowiono zniszczony nagrobek bohaterki.
Kazimiera Kamińska służyła w Wojsku Polskim w latach 1939–1947. Jako pielęgniarka ratowała życie i zdrowie żołnierzy, m.in. podczas słynnej bitwy o Monte Cassino. Za swoją służbę została odznaczona m.in. Krzyżem Pamiątkowym Monte Cassino, Gwiazdą za Wojnę 1939–1945, Gwiazdą Italii, Srebrnym Krzyżem Zasługi z Mieczami oraz Medalem Wojska Polskiego.
Po wojnie porucznik Kamińska zamieszkała w Rumi, gdzie zmarła w 1971 roku. Jej grób znajduje się na cmentarzu przy kościele Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego (sektor A, rząd 18, grób 17). Przez lata pamięć o bohaterce pielęgnowała jej krewna, Janina Pełka z Płocka. To dzięki jej działaniom miejsce pochówku wpisano do ewidencji grobów weteranów.

W 2024 roku Urząd Miasta Rumi przejął formalną opiekę nad grobem, traktując go jako część lokalnej pamięci historycznej. Nagrobek był w złym stanie – upływ czasu i niskie osadzenie sprawiły, że był uszkodzony i nieczytelny.
Dzięki zaangażowaniu samorządowców – Piotra Wittbrodta i Anny Borys – udało się pozyskać z Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej dofinansowanie w wysokości blisko 14,4 tys. zł na kompleksową renowację.
W miejscu starego nagrobka stanął nowy, granitowy pomnik. Dodatkowo wykonano chodnik, umieszczono wazon na kwiaty oraz wykonano grawer z informacją o zasługach porucznik Kamińskiej.
— Ze względu na stan pomnika zdecydowaliśmy, że zrobimy wszystko, co w naszej mocy, aby go wymienić. Aktualnie sprawdzamy, czy są w Rumi inne groby wymagające podobnej opieki – mówi Piotr Wittbrodt, pełnomocnik burmistrza ds. społecznych.
